Why I Joined Stompernet – Plus a Free SEO Course

June 17, 2009 by Elizabeth

What Is Stompernet and Why Did I Join?

Seven Deadly SEO MistakesBoth Russell and myself are members of Stompernet. But in late summer 2007 I’d never heard of Stomping.

I’d had a career in programming and systems design since the mid 1980s but had since In 2001 decided to leave my job, and go it alone. I’d started to create web sites for private clients.

In the early days web design was more about cross browser compatibililty and the difficulties of rendering your ideas in a reasonable way via the new medium of the internet.

Towards the end of the zeroes though, it’s become a battle of intellect and challenge to sanity. My questions changed from

How the hell do I do this in Photoshop?

to

What does it take to consistently convert visitors into buyers, and will I need a brain the size of a planet to do it?

Google Changed Everything

Google’s rise to world dominance changed everything. It’s no longer possible to keep up with changing innovations online coming from that one company, let alone the proliferation of new ideas, services and products that flood mine, and your inboxes every day.

Enter Stompernet

I joined Stompernet because I happened to discover them at the right time. I joined SMARTS – a public course run by Stompernet and became enamoured with the quality of the teaching given there by Don Crowther. The support was outstanding as was the encouragement so I joined Stompernet at the end of the SMARTS course.

A short time later I jumped at the opportunity to become a Stompernet moderator when offered the chance by Bill Crowther, heading of coaching at Stompernet.

Stompernet hold at least two events per year in the US, normally in Atlanta, and many Brits, including ourselves, travel over to be there. If you ever get the chance to attend a Stompernet event, take it. It’s a great experience.

You can also take this opportunity to sign up for a Free Stompernet Tutorial (not for the faint-hearted). If you do, you’ll be introduced to Andy Jenkins, our talented CEO and to Dan Thies in this video. Enjoy.
